Keep You Guessing
Words & Music by Neil Carswell
What am I supposed to do
when all of my hopes and dreams are dying?
There’s nothing left for me to hold anymore.
Man, I feel so alone.
What am I supposed to think
when the whole worlds out here laughing?
There’s nothing left for me,
most my friends are gone.
I feel tied down, all alone, tired of trying.
So I don’t want to lead you on.
I don’t want to keep you guessing.
I don’t want to fill your heart full of lies,
‘cause you’re only a little desperate and lonely.
I don’t want to keep you guessing.
What am I supposed to think?
We all stare embarrassed.
I finally learned to read some sign on the wall.
Now I’m wise to the ties
that keep me writing home.
So I don’t want to lead you on.
I don’t want to keep you guessing, babe.
I don’t want to fill your heart full of lies,
‘cause you’re only a little desperate and lonely.
I don’t want to keep you guessing.
I don’t want to keep you guessing!
I just can’t fill your heart full of lies, no,
you’re only desperate and lonely, baby,
and time ain’t the only reason
that I’ll stand by your side!
So I don’t want a lead you on, woman.
I don’t want a keep you guessing anymore now no, no, no.
Fill your heart full of lies,
‘cause you’re only a little desperate and lonely.
I don’t want lead you on.
I don’t want a keep you guessing anymore now no, no, no.
Fill your heart full of lies,
‘cause you’re only a little desperate and lonely.
I don’t want to lead you on.
I don’t want to lead youon.
I don’t want to lead you on full of lies
‘cause your only a little desperate and lonely.
Now I don’t want to keep you guessing
I don’t want to keep you guessing,
I don’t want to keep you guessing, no.
Song written at my cabin in North Carolina, behind my old upright piano, a few years back. The song was about an estranged relationship I was in at the time. Pouring myself into oblivious derangement, I somehow came up with this song and arrangement. I still don’t know how; a very personal song in which the lyrics just came easy. Only I would know what they mean, and even now, I question the powers to be what the hidden meaning is; even within my own insight. In a nutshell it’s a love song, written over a few months of time about a very special person. I just had that gut feeling in my heart that our time together was in the moment, only a few days numbered. A true epic song with the great solo coda at the end played by Chris Anderson to sum it up. Great players and production, one of the most special tunes to come to me in my career. In the end, I decided this would be the title cut for the record, “Keep You Guessing,” just when you thought I was all washed up, here we go again! It seems I’ve enjoyed kicking over the ladder to start the climb more than the hanging around at the top with the in crowd of success. The bottom, I sure met some interesting people down here and the more I climb the more I miss all of you dearly, especially the ones that are gone on to the next life!
