Since I Met You
Words & Music by Neil Carswell

I’ve been saying for a long time,
I’s gonna get myself together.
And I’ve been praying for a long time,
through all kinds of bad weather.
But you know,
in the morning it ain’t so hard
to get out of bed anymore,
oh, and the nights ain’t so long and lonesome,
since I met you, babe.
Since I met you...

I’ve been turning lines into miles,
trying to find my way to nowhere.
Trying to turn my life around
to keep from running round in circles.
But you know,
in the morning it ain’t so hard to get out of bed anymore,
oh, the nights ain’t so long and lonesome,
since I met you, babe.
Since I met you...

Sometimes it’s hard, for me to show you how I feel.
Instead of giving in,
I’d rather steal a little love from you.
One thing I know I’ll never have the right to do,
is to trade away all the tears
for the good times we’ve shared together.
We’re still together.

I’ve been saying for a long time,
I’m gonna write you a long letter.
I’ve been waiting for the right lines
to come and put themselves together.
But you know, in the morning it ain’t so hard
to get out of bed anymore,
oh, the nights ain’t so long and lonesome,
since I met you, babe.
Since I met you, babe.
Since I met you.
Since I met you.

Song written at our old home in Glen Alpine, North Carolina. Mark Lambert helped me arrange it before his untimely death. He loved the tune. I knew we had something special in this one. It was written about my wife, Melissa, a love song of a new start when we first started dating before we got married. A great production, which turned into a duet with Kim Keys in a vocal sense, adding a sensibility to the melody and statement of relationship. What soul, with a great slide solo performed by Chris Anderson on the coda out; one of my favorites. A vocal style which I had never performed before in my career, in love, singing to my wife through the glass at Quad Studio in Nashville. A very special performance in a special place in time.
