Big Sky
Words & Music by Neil Carswell & Chris Anderson

Headed out toward Montana,
all the way from Louisiana.
Since I left there I can’t keep no track of time.
Since I left home I can’t keep no track of time.
In between Bozeman and Big Sky
only the good Lord knows.
Wherever I go is too far from where I want to be.
Wherever I go is too far from where I want to be!

Trucker out on the road,
carrying a heavy load,
Staring in a rear view mirror,
reflecting back on his life.
Wondering how things might have been
if he’d of spent more time with the kids.
Instead of running from town to town
holding that hammer down.

He loved to ride that wide open west,
Instead of staying home
with the ones he loved the best.
He pulls his rig off beside the road,
and we just pass him by
putting chains on in the snow.

Headed out toward Montana,
all the way from Louisiana.
Since I left there I can’t keep no track of time.
In between Bozeman and Big Sky
only the good Lord knows.
Wherever I go is too far from where I wanna be.
Wherever I go is too far from where I wanna be.
Wherever I go is too far from where I wanna be!

Headed out towards Montana,
all the way from Louisiana.
Since I left there I can’t keep no track of time.
The women down there make you lose your mind.

Song actually written in Montana. Chris Anderson and I were on a skiing trip in Salt Lake City and decided to go to Montana to see a producer friend. Riding in the rental car I was strumming my little old Martin, a guitar I usually carried with me on the road for writing and Chris started jokingly singing the hook of the lyric. I thought it was good so we decided to turn it into a song, later finishing the bridge and recording it within a month or so in Nashville. This is a song that just happened, those are the special ones, the ones you aren’t even looking for; just simple gifts.
