South Wind
Words & Music by Neil Carswell
I’ll take the South Wind over any breeze that blows.
I give my body to you lady,
I give Jesus my soul.
Now I’m stuck out on a highway
and I’m miles away from home,
so I’ll take the South Wind over any breeze that blows.
Now you can throw away tomorrow,
But you can’t buy back yesterday.
The best of life’s a memory and so they say.
And I’ve seen times of being down and out of luck.
But what I’d give for you woman just to feel your gentle touch.
I’ll take the South Wind over any breeze that blows.
Give my body to you lady,
I’ll give Jesus my soul.
Now I’m stuck out on a highway,
and I’m miles away from home,
so I’ll take the South Wind over any breeze that blows.
So are you true enough to lay down with me?
Will you love me in the morning,
can I hold you while you sleep?
Little lady now,
I ain’t got time to be lending out love.
But what I’d give for you woman,
just to feel your gentle touch.
I’ll take the South Wind over any breeze that blows.
Give my body to you lady,
I’ll give Jesus my soul.
Now I’m stuck out on a highway,
and I’m miles away from home,
so I’ll take the South Wind over any breeze that blows.
I’ll take the South Wind.
I was about nineteen years old when I wrote this song in a tree on Shortoff Mountain, in North Carolina, deer hunting. I took the lyric and melody back to the guitar and figured out the chords I was hearing in my head; several years later I’ve finally recorded it and now I’m putting it out. Lyrically the song is an innocent portrayal of a youthful perception misunderstood; looking back it seems the song was born from an old soul.
